The Anchorage Community YMCA swim lesson program is designed to give every child a chance to grow and succeed while learning to swim. Each swim lesson is taught by a trained instructor. Our swim lessons offer a low student-teacher ratio to help children safely develop their skills and confidence in the water. Each class is 25 minutes in length.
If you would like to sign up for swim sessions please contact the membership counter @ 563-3211 or email the Aquatics Department at email@example.com
For returning students you can now register on line by clicking here
Call 563-3211 and we will help you register. We will ask for information on your family if you are new to the Y and will also ask for information on your child’s age and swimming experience. First registered are first called for members and those in prior lessons and then for prospective new students. If you have received a message regarding lessons, contact us as soon as possible as slots fill up fast.
Registration for lessons
Cost is $70 for YMCA members and $85 for non members. Tuesday-Thursday & Monday – Wednesday lessons run twice a week at the prescribed time slot.
Families are urged to re-register the last day your current session ends after receiving certificate. Please indicate which level your child has completed when registering with member service.
Adult Swim Lessons
Adult swim lessons are also offered Saturdays at 9:00 AM at most Saturday lessons. Each 45 minute lesson costs $60 for Y-members and $70 for non-members. Please check the swim lesson schedule for days of availability as we sometimes anticipate a shortage of instructors due to swimming meets or other events.
Private Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons are also available. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and availability.
These lessons are designed to help the parent help his or her child become more comfortable in the water. Classes are currently located at the Dimond Branch only. Please ask member services if you would like to register or call 907-344-7788.
Swim Team is a natural next step after completion of our swimming lessons. Contact Lauren Langford @907-563-3211 or email@example.com for more information and practice placement. We strive, but do not guarantee we will be able to place swimmers at the same times as our swim lesson swimmers.
Our commitment is for your child to learn to be water safe. These are our swim lesson levels.
Youth I Lessons – Beginners
- In this level, children learn to blow bubbles, float, and move independently.
Youth II Lessons – Intermediate
- In this level, children learn basic freestyle and backstroke as well as breaststroke and dolphin kick. To enter this level, children must be able to submerge their whole body, float comfortably, and move independently without assistance.
Youth III Lessons – Advanced
- In this level, children learn advanced freestyle and backstroke as well as basic breaststroke and butterfly. They learn the corresponding turns for each stroke and develop endurance as well. To enter this level, children must be able to swim an entire length of the pool either freestyle or backstroke without stopping.
YMCA Youth Swim Lessons are intended for children aged 3-12 years. If you would like an exception for a child who is younger or older, please get in touch with the Aquatics Director via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
