The YMCA of the USA is a mission-based, family-focused, organization with nearly 160 years of service in the U.S. The YMCA puts Christian principles into practice, welcomes and supports children and families and helps build the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through programs that build healthy spirits, minds, and bodies. The nation’s 2,617 YMCA’s serve more than 20.2 million people each year, uniting men, women, and children of all ages, faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels. At the heart of community life across America, mission-driven YMCA’s are “a place to belong” and to live the values that guide and unite our members. “You’ve seen one YMCA…you’ve only seen one YMCA,” according to the YMCA of the USA.

The Mat-Su YMCA started with a small group of volunteers over 12 years ago meeting to discuss the possibility of starting a Y in the Valley.  In 2018 the YMCA of Alaska commissioned an Advisory Board for the Mat-Su YMCA and to begin program development.  In 2019 the Mat-Su YMCA started a before and after school program at Tanaina Elementary and that followed with Day Camp Programs in Wasilla and Palmer.  This past year the program at Tanaina continues and is now licensed by the State of Alaska.  Swim Lessons programs were added in 2021 and provides a valuable life long skill for youth in the Valley.  This summer will also be the 3rd summer of Day Camp operating out of Creekside Church with the camp also utilizing YMCA Camp Peggy Lake near Talkeetna.

In 2022, YMCA Camp Peggy Lake will host campers from our day camp programs in Wasilla and Anchorage.
